i knew they were growing old, i knew they need our help. i understand that as their child, i have the duty to help them out. every year they expect that from us. every year they ask that of us. every year they nag that from us. though they don't force that on us.
this year is no different. but i am.
i don't know. i just went with what they asked me to do. even asking them what else i could do when i'm done with something. with no complaints nor dread nor reluctance. i just do.
and through doing, i begin to appreciate the culture and tradition that's embedded in our family since my grandmother's time, maybe even my great-greatgrandparents' time. in working together in the kitchen and doing the prayers, we're showing respect to our ancestors and also remembering the old times, experiencing the warmth of family.
i am a wee bit ashamed that only now i realize all this. but it's not too late. not too late. i guess i have matured some ever since i started working. i'm more understanding and tolerant where my parents are concerned. maybe coz i now know how tough it is raising kids. having us three, with a demanding daughter, a brat and a kiddo, is surely not easy.
cny has been the most precious time in our family. now it's more precious for me. i hope i have many more years to spend cny with them.
