solitude and social networking

they don't mesh together.

i want my solitude. yet i have this symptom called FOMO aka fear of missing out. of course this contradiction would shake up the balance.

it's nice to be able to be updated through this convenient tool called FB. happenings around town. interesting news and titbits. and updates from friends i care about whom i seldom see.

but it's also an overload of information. whatever information, good, bad, farcical, true, in depth, superficial. and it's something i think i need to distance myself from.

how ironic that with internet where information is right at your fingertips that we are overloaded with more useless information than knowledge. and how is it that people never really read and think through whatever is presented to them with slightly more thought, and just take the information and think it's as it is.

and i was guilty of that at some point. coz i was lazy to jog my neurons a bit more. no wonder nowadays some people lack critical thinking skills and intellectual conversations are difficult to find nowadays.

i mentioned a few days earlier that i get depressed reading other people's social updates. that features their active social lives and lifestyles.

today i realized, screw them all. the updates. it's also another stage the FB provided for us mere mortals to put on our acts. and a stage for us to further our ideals, thoughts, plans, purpose, propaganda. not totally useless, i say. coz it still accomplishes those purposes to a certain extent. also, not to say honest interactions can't exist in that virtual world. they still can. and i think they do exist. it's just that as a spectator, we have to be mindful and not get sucked into this stage too much. and as actors, be aware of what we put out there, and don't expect too much from your audience. as much as what you posts garners lots of likes, shares and comments, it feeds only your ego, false sense of belonging, hidden desire to be in the spotlight, desire to be acknowledged, and to prove that you're not invisible.

"all the world's a stage" is never more true in this instance.
