hawker-stall-owner-pretending kid

he went into one of his pretend world again. at first i thought: "ah...he's selling mixed rice again."

then he started chopping on the table.
chop chop chop chop chop ...pause... chop chop chop chop chop
(scoop the table with another hand covering on top)

me thinking: "omg...is he selling chicken rice?"

and i asked him.

oh he didn't answer me. just kept on "working" in his pretend world.

one minute later, i heard him say: "鸡二度啊? mm" (meaning the part just below the chicken thigh)
chop chop chop chop chop

omg. and it really seemed like he's the chicken rice seller you go to. the mannerisms and chopping style are quite similar. he is so observant that the chopping and meat-scooping actions were almost spot on. and he is that imaginative, using the leg rest on the overturned-table (the ones we have in schools) as hangers of chicken.

he goes into his pretend world at least once a day. well, at least when he's with us. sometimes he a policeman, sometimes he's a mixed rice seller, sometimes he's an astronaut launching into space in a rocket, sometimes he's spiderman or spy.

we try to let him be whenever he does that. and we do have to stop him when it's time to get down to business, which is almost every time. and of course when that happens he's not happy with us. even when we try to work around it to make the transition easier for him, making it sound like a natural occurence in his pretend world. and in that handful of times when he just listens to your "nonsense" and follows your lead, we all heave a big sigh of relief.

but i do regret that we don't have enough time for him to play pretend in class. it always feel like we are pressed for time. and maybe he senses that and needs the respite.

*****

he's called me a crocodile a few times. and a snake. it's a game to him. sometimes i play along. sometimes i just ignore especially when i know he's just taunting me.

he gives me the hoity toity look all the time. he scolds me too. and tells me to go away. and says "mm moi" "bu yao" " dowan" to me a huge lot.

i'm always stepping on his toes. telling him to stop doing this, you have to do that. you have to close your mixed rice shop already coz there's no more customer. it's no wonder he sends me all these angry stares and shouting.

so when his dad told me: "he says he likes you to teach him", imagine my surprise. i never thought he'd say that.

aww...
