when we were teenagers, people always asked: "what do you wanna do in future?"
when we finished our high school or pre-U, they asked: "what are you gonna study in university?"
when we were finally studying in university, they asked: "are you planning to do masters after you graduate?"
when we were finishing our degree studies, they asked: "don't you wanna do your masters right after your degree?"
and if you tell them firmly that you wanna gain work experience first, they asked: "so have you applied for any job? what kind of jobs have you applied for?"
and then when you're finally working, they asked: "so when will you do your masters? where are you planning to go?"
these are actually quite minor. as annoying and frustrating and eyeball-rolling the questions are, these are actually pretty harmless. if you accomplish any of those or give a very firm explanation about your plans, they'd stop asking those questions. even if you don't, they can't say anything really.
but one question that i finally find impossible to shrug off with any response (however truthful my answers are, or how "innocent" i pretend to be), is the most popular question directed to any person over 20.
"do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?"
sigh...i guess now that i'm turning twenty-and-three, i'll get this question now and again. and no answer will satisfy them, positive or otherwise. even if it becomes a positive reply, the other question they'd ask is: "when are you getting married?"
whatever your reply is, it's bound to be followed by a discussion about relationships. regardless whether it's about you or not.
sigh...people and their obsession with other people's relationship status.
