experimenting with new recipes

i've been trying quite a few new recipes lately. i still have a lot on my list of experiments, yet i keep looking for new ones. hahaha.

i wouldn't say all of them are a success, coz every single one of them has room for improvement. hey, it's my first time ya know. and the recipes are not tried and tested from people i know or demonstrated to me.

so i've had no expectations whatsoever on how they're all gonna turn out. except for pictures and testimonials from the recipe authors.

but i've been quite lucky in the sense that they all look successful but just need a couple of technical improvements or appropriate seasoning/flavouring. hooray! =)

i'm so thankful and grateful to my family for becoming my food critics (guinea pigs). and they've been really open-minded and supportive about it.

but there are certain people who are just the opposite. i don't wanna get defensive about my food, coz i know they're not perfect and i welcome your opinions. but to deliver them the way you do? it frustrates me, riles me, and irks me. just makes me feel very very reluctant to share my food with you.

fortunately i'm not that kind of person who'll get defeated by a harsh criticism or two. i'm still gonna try. coz this is what i love to do. it's a rewarding and satiating hobby. though a bit expensive when expensive ingredients are called for.

and here are the results of my recent experiments:

tiramisu - looks ok from outside. but see the flaws from the inside? and it's really super duper sweet! it still gives me the chills just thinking about it. lesson learned: for every new recipe i try, i'll reduce the sugar by at least a quarter of the stated amount.

Green Tea Ice-cream - not bad at all. though not as light and fluffy as store bought. will try again when i get my hand blender =)

Fried Chicken (no pic) - it was quite nice, quite similar to Taiwanese fried chicken. though it's too salty. i guess i'll have to reduce the salt amount too huh?
